SWATA Committee Spotlight - Young Professionals

From time to time throughout the next year we will be spotlight one of our hard working committees that we have in SWATA. We on the executive board feel that there are great things being done by our commiteees for you the member and we want to give them some positive exposure.

The first committee that we will be spotlighting is the Young Professionals Committee. This committee is chaired by Carissa Spraberry (cspraberry@sheldon.k12.tx.us) of CE King HS in the Greater Houston area. Carissa is the 2009 recipient of the James Dodson New Horizon Award.

The Young Professionals Committee (YPC) was created to offer the growing number of young athletic trainers an opportunity to get involved in the future of our association and continue to grow as professionals and leaders. Their mission is to identify and address the interests, needs and concerns of young athletic training professionals, while developing the future leaders of our association and facilitating open communication to and from all members of SWATA. While they may be an exclusive group because they have a specific age demographic, they are definitely not exclusionary, so thoughts, perspectives and input from everyone are always welcome.

Some of their current projects…

The SWATA mentor list-they have put together a fine group of athletic trainers willing to offer advice and counsel on issues facing athletic trainers. You can find the list here: http://www.swata.org/committees/mentor_list.php

If you are interested in becoming a mentor: http://www.swata.org/committees/mentor_form.php

They are currently developing ideas to improve this excellent resource, so be on the lookout for that.

ATEAM: HR 1137- They collected over 200 postcards in support of our legislation at SWATA. If you are interested in continuing this project at your workplace you can find the postcards and instructions here: http://www.nata.org/members1/youngprofessionals/yppostcards.cfm

Other things They are working on…
National Athletic Training Month Promotions
SWATA 2010 programming for students and professionals as well as social and networking events for the meeting. (Did you like the flair?! Want more?)
